A Room of My Own, Part Two

My daughter was aghast that I posted such poor pictures of new newly renovated craft room, so I've updated the previous post with better pictures. And, while I was at it, I took a few more photos showing some detailed storage.

Here's another view of the ClosetMaid Cubeicals I used to make my art table.

An old CD holder, picked up for $5 at the used furniture store, houses my collection of cling stamps. I wrote the name and manufacturer of each stamp set on the back of each CD with a permanent marker.

I'm displaying my wooden stamps in an old letterpress case.

One of my favorite places to shop for storage ideas is the Dollar Store. I found these little buckets with tray for only a dollar. 

I used little pieces of Graphic 45's Old Curiosity Shoppe collection throughout the room. I labeled everything, including this old stationary basket I use to hold my dies. I even added butterflies from the paper to an old lamp.

It's amazing how much easier the room is to work in, now that everything is organized and close at hand. I wish I had done this years ago.

A Room of My Own

It was over four years ago when I decided I needed a place to hold my growing collection of art and scrapping supplies. I took over my daughter's old bedroom and put up some shelving, but before I could finish, life got crazy. Abandoned, the room slowly became like one of those that you see featured on "Clean House." I had nightmares that Neicy Nash would show up on my doorstep demanding that I let her crew take care of the mess. 

But recently, I became inspired by the studios of my fellow students in Tangie Baxter's Art Journal Caravan workshop. I started collecting ideas on my Pinterest account, and buying magazines about organization. And then, I saw Graphic 45's new Old Curiosity Shoppe collection of papers and embellishments. I joked that I liked it so much that I could paper a room with it. And, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it would be a great theme for a craft room/studio.

So, here's my new room. 

I made the 36"x80" table using Closet Maid Cubeicals and a hollow door from Lowe's -- total cost right at $100.

I found adhesive measuring tape online at Amazon. No more looking for lost rulers while in the middle of a project.

My crafting partner, my five-year-old grandson, has a table for his own art projects.

All the canvas cubes used in the Cubeicals are labeled with alpha stickers from Graphic 45. The backs of the cubes are papered using scrapbook paper.

To add some visual interest, I framed four torso tags that I created using the Old Curiosity Shoppe papers.

More yummy papers from the collection were used to cover some old cake boxes. I love turning trash into treasure.

But my favorite creation has to be the flying pig. The base is an old ribbon holder, and the pig was made from the cardboard on the back of the Graphic 45 papers. 

And, just for fun, I used the Curiosity Shoppe tags and stickers on my storage jars.

One of my favorite purchases is this old tool carrier that I found at a second-hand shop. It's being repurposed to hold all of my acrylic paints.

 

One wall is full of bookcases. All my tools are at hand. Everything is organized and labeled. I'm ready to create.
